FRB Custom Bicycle: A Unique Wooden City Bike

Konstantinos Papadopoulos, a designer from Tripolis, Greece, has merged his love for cycling with his family's expertise in timber processing to create the FRB Custom Bicycle. This unique wooden city bike showcases the beauty and versatility of wood as a material, while providing a functional and stylish mode of transportation.

The FRB Custom Bicycle stands out from other bikes due to its choice of wood as the main material. The frame is made from African red padauk and oak, which are carefully cut into 5mm thick slices and glued together under vacuum pressure. This process not only enhances the strength of the frame but also showcases the natural beauty of the wood grain.

What sets the FRB Custom Bicycle apart is the personalized frame design and finish. Each bike is handcrafted, allowing for customization to suit the rider's style and preferences. The frame is sanded to achieve the desired effect and then varnished for a polished look. The final step involves the assembly of the components, resulting in a truly unique and personalized wooden city bike.

Aside from its aesthetic appeal, the FRB Custom Bicycle is designed to be lightweight and durable. The wood, known for its shockproof properties, provides a comfortable ride while withstanding heavy loads. The bike is also equipped with high-quality components, including a carbon handlebar, custom leather saddle, and Shimano XT crankset, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable cycling experience.

The FRB Custom Bicycle project started in February 2014 and was completed in August 2014 in Tripolis, Greece. It was later exhibited at the Benaki Museum in Athens in May 2015, showcasing the talent and creativity of young Greek designers.
